It began in 1998. The leadership of City Life Church saw a lack of young people in the church and knew something needed to change. Inspired by the Dream Center in California and a similar program in Spokane, the Master’s Commission was birthed. Pastor Gerald Evans pioneered the program with Keri Buchanan, from the Spokane program, and a small team of young leaders. In 2000, Pastor Gerald’s wife, Debbie Evans, joined the team, and together they directed the program for 12 years. In 2012 The City Life Church Master’s Commission changed leadership, passing the baton into the capable hands of Keri and her husband Shawn Harvey. Together, they now pastor a group of young people each year, bringing freedom, healing, and restoration through Christ, and impacting the surrounding community.
Although the program started with three students, it has grown to over 300 graduates. Innumerable lives have been touched by the rippling effect of changed young people reaching out. Although the methods may have changed over the years, the heart is still the same and the goal of raising up a generation for Christ has not changed.
