Being a student in the Master’s Commission is an incredibly unique and rewarding experience.
As a student, you will be placed in a home with one of the families from our church here at City Life. These families voluntarily bring a student into their home and adopt them into their family for 10 months. This is a wonderful time to connect in a new environment, and the relationships formed have always served an important purpose in what MC does.
From Tuesday to Friday you will be with your classmates all day, either in the classroom or on outreaches. Saturday afternoons are spent doing work projects, serving families and individuals in our local church wherever we can. Sunday mornings are spent both in the regular Sunday service, as well as serving in our kids ministry program. Monday is a day off. Students have freedom to choose what to do with this day, either working, recharging, spending time with their host families, or more.
Worship and class are times to really engage in your own process. We always say, “you get out of it what you put into it.” Be prepared to share your heart, and thoughts on the issues at hand, and grow in your understanding of Jesus, and people.
Weekly outreaches as well as our spring tours are the place where you will really have the opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice. You will be challenged as what is discussed in the classroom becomes more real and concrete as you live it out. Be ready to form some fantastic relationships with the kids and/or staff members that you work with.
One-on-one mentorship is a huge part of what MC is all about. From Pastors Shawn and Keri, to our staff, to our interns, everyone is here to see you succeed as you grow in your relationship with Christ. Each student will have an intern who is there to be their coach and cheerleader. Weekly intern meetings are an opportunity to catch up on what has happened in the week and reflect on challenges, lessons learned, and where God is leading you as an individual.
More than anything, you can expect to see God move in big ways, and to do great things in your life, that you never expected. As you grow closer to Him, and your relationship with Him changes, you will change as well. Our heart is to see you walk out of here stronger in the Lord and equipped with the tools needed to succeed in living the life the Christ has called you to. Consider it life school: a place to learn to live your life on purpose.
