Days and weeks here at MC are packed. From the beginning of the year to the end, days are full and there is a lot going on.
Here is a little bit of what you can anticipate from a week with us:
Worship is an integral component to the Masters Commission program; every morning we spend time praising and worshipping God.
Students and our interns or staff will often come in with faith-filled inspiration that provides a direction for our worship. It’s a time where we also get the opportunity to collectively pray and intercede for specific situations and for each other’s burdens.
As we spend time in worship and prayer we will hear individually from the Lord as He speaks into our life and the lives of those around us.
Class time is when we get down to the truth about what it actually means to be a disciple of Christ. To live like He lived and love like He loves.
Typically this happens as students present chapter studies on the various books that we cover in our curriculum. We will also watch video teachings by various pastors, speakers, and teachers. After these teachings there is a group dialogue where each student has the opportunity to engage in discussion about the topics presented.
We cover a lot of ground in these discussions, ranging from our identity in God, understanding spiritual authority, servanthood, healthy communication, relationships of all kinds, and the pursuit of holiness to name only a few.
Throughout the year, we have various guest speakers come in who convey the truths that they have learned in their own walks with God. Guest speakers have included: Pastor Jim Anderson(lifeline-ministries.org), Pastor Justin Manzey(latitudeministries.com), Pastor Jake Schmelzer, Nicole Reyes(nicolereyes.life), Pastor Charlie Sweet(compassion-coalition.org), Pastor Lon Stokes, Pastor Natalie Aman, Pastor Derrill Corbin.
Discipleship inevitably involves mentorship, and therefore is a major component of what happens here at MC. Our directors, staff and interns provide counsel and guidance through weekly meetings and other interactions outside of the class environment.
If you were to ask any of our alumni about their experience at MC, they are certain to mention weekly outreaches.
These are one of the highlights of our week. Every Tuesday and Thursday, students will have the opportunity to go into different areas of our community and serve in a number of ways. We are involved in a number of after school programs and different elementary schools in Chilliwack, as well as non-profit organizations in the city.
These are then times when we really get to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we give out of what we have been given.
Over the course of the year, not only do we have guest speakers come in, we also get to attend several conferences and go on retreats. These are wonderful times when we get to serve, as well as connect with other young adults who are going through this same process.
Whether it is being hosted by our church or by churches in America, it has become very beneficial to our year and that is why we attend them year after year.
Spring tours are a major part of our year(and one of the most fun)! They are a period when we travel to different places and churches, and spend a few days or a week coming alongside them and supporting their vision, pouring out where we can. These few weeks are an action-packed part of our year, when some of the best memories are made.
From spending time on the road with classmates, to helping churches with their outreaches, projects, and ministries, to hosting services in these places, there are always a lot of things going on.
This is an impactful and fulfilling time of seeing just what Jesus can do through our service, opening doors into communities and into peoples hearts.
As we lay ourselves aside, Christ shines all the brighter, and it is little wonder why this is a favourite time of year for so many of our students.
Previously, Carrie Abbott Conference, has been hosted by Generational Leadership in Maple Valley, Washington.
Regeneration Conference hosted by our youth ministry, Regen Church here at City Life Church.
Every year, City Life Church holds a prophetic meetings with visiting guest pastors and speakers, this has always been an exceptional experience for our entire church.
During our year, we go on two retreats; our Beginning of the Year Retreat and End of the Year Retreat. These are moments where we get to reflect and share what God has done in our lives. It is also a time when we connect with one another on a deeper level, and grow together as a team.
