At City Life Church, we believe that the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments is the fully inspired Word of God and is the infallible standard for faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Corinthians 2:13).
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
We believe in God, the Father, the Infinite Spirit, who concerns Himself with justice and mercy in the affairs of mankind. He hears and answers prayer, and saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:12, 18).
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary. We believe in His sinless life, His miracles and teachings, His death on the cross which took the penalty for our sins, His resurrection from the dead, and His ascension into heaven. We believe that He is now at the right hand of God, interceding for us, and that He will visibly return to earth again (Luke 1:26-35; John 1:18; Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 4:25; John 14:2-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who was sent to convict the world of sin in righteousness and judgement. We believe the Holy Spirit lives in every believer and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and comforter. We believe that the Holy Spirit desires to express Himself in an experience subsequent to salvation, with the scriptural evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. The Holy Spirit enhances our relationship with the Father and develops in us godly character to empower and minister through us in the exercise of all His gifts (Acts 2:1-4; Acts 8:14-17; Acts 10:44-46; Galatians 3:14-15).
We believe that all human beings are sinners by nature and choice, and are therefore under God’s judgement. We believe that God forgives and transforms by the Holy Spirit those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. This is what is known as being “born again” (Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:12, 22; Romans 5:11).
We believe in the necessity of water baptism by immersion as an act of commitment to Christ. This is a demonstration of belief in and identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:34-36; Acts 19:1-6).
We believe in commemorating our Lord’s death by partaking of the bread symbolizing Christ’s body broken for us, and of the cup symbolizing Christ’s blood. This is commonly called communion and is open to all believers (1 Corinthians 11:28-32).
We believe in the Spirit-filled life, a life of holiness and separation from the world. This is an expression of our Christian faith (Ephesians 5:18; 2 Corinthians 6:14, 7:1).
We believe that Christ gave five ministry gifts to the church: the apostle, prophet, pastor, teacher, and evangelist. We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Spirit and in divine healing in its varied aspects as practiced in the early church. We believe in the restoration of all truth as outlined in the Bible and in the laying on of hands (Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Acts 4:30; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 2:9; James 5:14; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:6; Hebrews 6:1-2; Acts 3:21).
We believe that as Christians, we have been given a command by Christ to go into all the world, preach the gospel, and make disciples of all men (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-18).
We believe that Christ will visibly return to earth a second time and that all believers will be taken up with Him forever. We believe in the final judgement of the world, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal judgment for the wicked. We believe in the eternal judgment of Satan and his angels (John 14:2-3; Mark 9:43-48; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Revelation 20:10-15; Matthew 25:41).
